This year we've expanded the Wednesday and Thursday evening events for the Denver Days Fall Festival.  Wednesday evening will include an evening of Gospel and Inspirational music and on Thursday evening we'll take you back in time to the “Denver Days Cruise-In Drive-In Movie Night”. Come out and enjoy a nostalgic evening complete with amusement rides, concessions stand, and an enormous 65 feet inflatable movie screen, (the largest in the southeast!). You can ride all the festival’s amusement rides on Wednesday and Thursday evening for a special “ride all the rides for one price”.

Text Box: With the help of modern technology, including a high resolution digital projector, powerful audio speaker system and local area FM broadcast equipment to enable visitors to tune in to the show on their car radio, we’ll transform the fairgrounds into an old-fashion drive-in movie theater. To add to the atmosphere of the evening a classic car cruise-in is being organized; classic cars and hot rods will park “drive-in movie style” in front of the big screen. Visitors don’t have to have an old car to get in on the fun though; everyone is welcome! Non-classic cars will park in the regular festival parking area and visitors can bring their lawn chairs and blankets to sit in front of the classic cars & hot rods for a great view of the big screen. To further add to the atmosphere a family friendly movie will be shown complete with cartoons to start, and those campy old intermission film clips just like the good old days! Before the movie there’ll be music and dancing along with the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful cars and the exciting assortment of amusement rides.

With the old cars, Drive-in Theater, Popcorn & concessions, amusement rides, music, dancing, and more… it’s guaranteed to be a fun evening with a big crowd.

A Fun Family Time Supporting Two Great Causes!

In the Denver Days spirit of serving the community the Denver Days Cruise-In Drive-In Movie Night will also be benefiting two very worthy causes. The Dale Earnhardt Foundation and Doug Herbert's B.R.A.K.E.S program.

Through the generosity of Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet the Denver Days Cruise-In Drive-In Movie will benefit the mission of The Dale Earnhardt Foundation which is to "Continue The Legend™" and legacy of Dale Earnhardt through charitable programs and grants that sustain his lifelong commitment to Children, Education and Environmental/Wildlife Preservation. As part of this mission Teresa Earnhardt has volunteered to provide a critically needed boost to "The Center of Hope", a Charlotte women and children's shelter operated by The Salvation Army. The 45,000-square-foot shelter is the largest in the Southeast, and is home to more than 225 individuals each night. It is estimated that the shelter houses nine percent of all sheltered children in North Carolina. Since 2002 it has been home to tens of thousands of residents which has produced excessive wear and tear on the facility. As part of designing an enriching atmosphere for the residents, Teresa Earnhardt is volunteering her extensive interior design experience to direct the badly needed refurbishment of the shelter. The walls, floors and furniture are in need of repair or replacement, and she has designed private and comfortable beds for the women and their children. The shelter has not had a major renovation since its construction in 1991. The improvements to the shelter are designed to support the first steps that women and children go through as they suddenly find themselves with no place to sleep as a result of finances, domestic violence or any number of other causes. Staying at the shelter allows the opportunity to find self-sufficiency by receiving a safe place to sleep, three nutritional meals each day, childcare, employment education, GED classes and comprehensive social services provided by 14 bachelor-level degreed case managers and physicians.

"The women and children that visit the Center of Hope need our help and support as a community. They are taking major steps to create better lives for their children and themselves, and they deserve a comfortable, safe environment to live temporarily." - Teresa Earnhardt

The Dale Earnhardt Foundation Book Trailer will be on hand at the Denver Days Cruise-In Drive-In Movie to accept donations of books. The first 100 people to bring a book will receive free rides tickets as a thank you! The Dale Earnhardt Foundation Book Center project provides much-needed reading material to the thousands of women and children that temporarily call the shelter home.

The Dale Earnhardt Foundation encourages donations of new or slightly used self-help, inspirational, career development or children's books as well as traditional fiction and non-fiction works as a free gift to shelter residents. The project is an ongoing initiative allows shelter residents to keep any book they find helpful from the collection, which is continually replenished by participating supporters and The Dale Earnhardt Foundation.

"Reading is something that all of these women, and perhaps more importantly, the children, need to do," Earnhardt said. "Through the generosity of supporters, The Dale Earnhardt Foundation Book Center will provide an opportunity for all of the Center's residents to find inspiration and enjoyment from reading."

Because the event features beautiful old cars and hot-rods it is fitting that we have also teamed up with National Drag Race Champion and local businessman Doug Herbert, to support his BRAKES program." The BRAKES program, which stands for "Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe", promotes safe and responsible driving to young drivers and their parents. The organization's goal is to save lives and keep children safe. As the organization's web site explains, "On January 26, 2008, Doug Herbert experienced every parent's worst nightmare: his two sons, Jon, 17, and James, 12, lost their lives in a tragic automobile accident. Trying to make some sense of this horrible tragedy, Doug has made it his mission to help prevent other parents, friends and families from enduring the pain he has been going through. The organization's mission is to save lives and raise awareness of young drivers."

There have been a number of kids in Lincoln County and the surrounding counties who have died in fatal car accidents making this mission all the more relevant for the Denver area. Promoting safe and responsible driving has never been more important and this event provides a great opportunity to reach a large audience with this important message. Come meet the great people behind the B.R.A.K.E.S program and learn more about how the program can help save the lives of you and the ones you love by keeping kids safe behind the wheel!

Take a Trip Back in Time!

Text Box: Thursday night will provide a nostalgic evening complete with old cars and
an old-fashioned night at the "drive-In."

Imagine a warm evening in late September, it's a little after 7:30 p.m., the sun is just about to set, and it's just beginning to get dark. You're sitting outdoors looking at a colorful collection of beautiful cars with big tailfins and gleaming chrome parked all around you. One by one you hear them begin to honk their horns until an image begins to gradually appear on a large outdoor screen. For one night only, as daylight and the stresses of the modern day slip away, the drive-in theater is open for business in Denver, North Carolina.

With the help of new technology the drive-in movie show is back, if only for a limited engagement. The screen is an enormous 65 feet inflatable wonder. Set it down, turn on a blower and the screen quickly rises up from the ground, an instant drive-in. The screen is the most visible part of the magic, behind the scenes there's a powerful digital projector, audio amplifiers, large speakers, generators, and an FM radio transmitter to broadcast the sound to nearby car radios.

Those Iconic drive-in speakers aren’t necessary because sound is broadcast via a small FM transmitter to car radios and also through loud speakers so that everyone can hear the show!

The Denver Days Drive-In Cruise-In is open to everyone. Drivers of classic cars and hot rods will park out front of the big screen just like the good old days. Those not in old cars can park nearby on the festival fair-grounds and then sit out front of the big screen on their own lawn chairs or blankets.

Imagine beautiful old cars and hotrods everywhere you look; a perfect stock '63 Ford Fairlane parked beside hot-rodded '57 Chevy Bel Airs and a '57 Cadillac Convertible with huge tail fins sitting between a couple of '60's muscle cars with monstrous engines rising up through their hoods.

The event will provide visitors with the chance to re-live the drive-in experience and share it with the younger crowd that missed out on this great old American tradition.

Imagine spreading blankets out in the back of the family's 1953 Ford Ranch Wagon and lying down as you wait excitedly for the movie to start.

Remember the great old movies your parents took you to see at the drive-in?

Remember cartoons before the main feature?

Remember the dancing hot-dogs during intermission?

Remember how you used to have your blankets and carry your pillows, how you'd wear your footsie pajamas, and how Dad & Mom would to tell you to settle down and go to sleep?

Well it's all here at the "Denver Days Drive-In"!

The night will include concessions where you can get your popcorn, hotdogs, candy, and drinks. The colorful and exciting amusements rides of the festival will be open and you can ride them all as much as you want for just one price.
Old rock-and-roll songs from the 50's, 60's, and 70's will start off the evening. There will be live music as well as DJ to provide a chance to dance under the stars too!

You won't want to miss this unique opportunity to travel back in time so mark your calendar and plan on coming to the Denver Days Drive-In Movie and Classic Car Cruise-In!
